    The World’s 7 Regions

The daily WorldWire newsletter divides the world into seven major regions.

Some comprise entire continents, but others include parts of different continents. The division takes into account geography, politics and culture.

The seven regions and their respective populations are:

    North America — 618 million

    South America — 440 million

Europe (including Russia) — 740 million

    Middle East — 315 million

    Africa — 1.56 billion

Central & South Asia (including India and Pakistan) — 2.17 billion

East Asia & Oceania (including China, Indonesia, Japan and Australia) — 2.40 billion

    Why International News

The United States may have the largest national economy, but Americans constitute an increasingly smaller part of the larger world.

With a population of 340 million, the U.S. is just 4.2% of the world. And with President Trump seeking mass deportations amid a declining birth rate, that percentage is likely to fall over the next two years.

Thus most of the future news developments in the world are likely to occur outside of the U.S. and even outside the most developed parts of the world.

The futurist Herman Kahn was prescient about this in 1976. His book The Next 200 Years argued that human society was poised to move from a state of scarcity to global affluence with universally higher standards of living.

The daily WorldWire Newsletter is an attempt to shed light on news developments across our rapidly growing world society.
